The goal | This course aims to provide students with the knowledge about the current concept of plant mineral nutrition, the uptake and transport of ions, their metabolic role, the problems of deficiency or toxicity of elements, the possibilities for increasing nutrient use efficiency. This knowledge can also be of practical importance for optimizing the plant nutrition and the application of fertilizers.
The outcome | At the end of the course the student should demonstrate knowledge of: the uptake, transport and distribution of ions, the role in the metabolism, the factors that affect nutrient use efficiency, the deficiency and toxicity of certain elements, the effects of stress factors and phytoremediation, molecular basis of mineral nutrition, the use of mutants and transgenic plants in nutrition research.
Contents | ||||
Contents of lectures | Uptake and transport of mineral elements and regulatory mechanisms. The role of macro and micro elements in metabolism. The interaction between photosynthesis, respiration and nitrogen assimilation, the mineral elements and the growth and productivity. Deficiency and toxicity of elements.
