The goal The course is designed to provide students with knowledge/understanding of: development of irrigation domestically and abroad, role and significance of water in production of field crops and horticulture, crop water requirements and determination of amount of water for irrigation, irrigation regimes, methods of irrigation under different conditions, knowledge of appropriate irrigation equipment.
The outcome At the end of the class, the student should demonstrate the ability to implement theoretical knowledge in practice. It is expected that he will be able to choose a method and calculate an adequate irrigation regime depending on the characteristics of the soil and cultivated plant species. The classes will contribute to equipping students for individual and team work and for critical thinking.
    Contents
Contents of lectures Climatic parameters, physical soil properties, crop water requirement, irrigation methods and technique, criteria for choosing an irrigation method and technique, elements of the irrigation regime (watering amount, watering time), application of mathematical models in planning and organizing plant production in irrigation conditions, specifics of irrigation of certain plant species.
Contents of exercises Evapotranspiration, determination of the requirements for irrigation of a certain area, calculation of the soil water content, determination of the crop water requirements, determination of the watering and irrigation amount, determination of the watering time, selection of irrigation regimes, application of the mathematical crop models.
