      The goal Introducing students to the basic concepts of soil management and procedures associated with land consolidation and reclamation. Different types of land reclamation: construction and maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems; recultivation of farmland; irrigation/drainage of fields and pastures; conversion of non-arable to arable land; and improvement of farmland quality.
      The outcome Knowledge about the basic concepts of land development in agriculture. Understanding of procedures associated with drainage, irrigation, erosion control and other amelioration measures. Ability to view in an integrated manner the land reclamation elements that contribute to the reduction of environmental pollution.
      Contents
      Contents of lectures The basic elements of the soil-plant-atmosphere system and the impact of reclamation measures on the environment. Drainage of agricultural lands. Irrigation and the water need of plants. Soil erosion, ways to prevent soil erosion. Pedoamelioration, rehabilitation of degraded soils and remediation of contaminated soils. Land consolidation. Environmental impact assessment.
