The goal The course should enable the student to acquire knowledge about metabolic processes in the microbial cell, biochemical pathways characteristic only for the microbial cell, metabolic diversity of microorganisms, biochemical transformation of organic compounds, mechanisms of transport of nutrients into the cell, and the influence of environmental factors on growth characteristics and parameters.
The outcome The student should be able to analyze microorganisms' metabolic processes, predict environmental factors' effects on microbial cell growth, describe metabolic processes characteristic only of microorganisms, and explain the application of different methods of enzymatic activity and microbial biomass in order to understand biochemical diversity.
    Contents
Contents of lectures Anabolism and catabolism of organic compounds in microorganisms, metabolism of phototrophic and chemotrophic microorganisms, enzymes as biocatalysts, metabolic processes characteristic only for microorganisms, microbial growth. The influence of environmental factors on metabolic pathways, enzymatic activity and soil microbial biomass as a parameter of soil biochemical activity.
Contents of exercises Study research work will be organized individually depending on the topic of the doctoral dissertation, and will include the preparation and writing of a seminar or scientific paper.
