    The goal The course should enable the student to acquire knowledge/understanding: about the development of irrigation in our country and in the world, about the role and importance of water in plant production, the needs of crops for soil water and its determination, the irrigation regime, ways and methods of irrigation for different plant species, the choice and functioning of irrigation equipment.
    The outcome The student should demonstrate the skills of: connecting theoretical knowledge with examples in practice, correct selection of irrigation equipment for different plant species (crops, horticulture), determining an adequate irrigation regime. Students will be trained for individual and team work, for critical opinion, presentation of acquired knowledge, as well as for evaluating the work invested.
    Contents
    Contents of lectures Physical properties of the soil, water in the soil and its dynamics, the water needs of cultivated crops, the influence of irrigation on the soil and plants, elements of the irrigation regime, ways and methods of irrigation, equipment for irrigation (crops, horticulture), application of fertigation in plant production.
    Contents of exercises Determining the most important physical and water characteristics of the soil, determining the crop water requirement, determining the elements of the irrigation regime (water amount, time for irrigation), determining the required amounts of fertilizers
