    The goal Basic properties of plant pathogens and changes caused by pathogenic organisms in horticultural plants; morphological, biological and ecological characteristics of economically significant species of harmful insects, mites, birds, rodents, snails and nematodes of horticultural plants; symptomatology of diseased and damaged horticultural plants and methods of their protection.
    The outcome The students will be able to diagnose and identify economically significant diseases and apply basic measures to control diseases of horticultural plants. They will also be able to diagnose symptoms caused by pests, identify economically significant pests of horticultural plants and apply basic measures to control them.
    Contents
    Contents of lectures The importance of diseases and pests in horticulture; pathogenesis; diseases and pests of fruit trees and grapevine, vegetable plants, potatoes, medicinal plants, ornamental plants and flowers; methods of controlling plant diseases and pests.
    Contents of exercises Basic characteristics of plant disease agents (fungi and pseudofungi, bacteria, phytoplasma and viruses); symptomatology; morphology of harmful species in horticulture, their reproduction and development.
