The goal | The course should enable the student to acquire: basic theoretical and practical knowledge about the structure and reactivity of organic compounds. | |||
The outcome | After successfully completing the course, the student should demonstrate the knowledge to: Understands the physical, structural and stereochemical properties of organic compounds. Names organic compounds. Understands characteristic transformations of functional groups and organic mechanisms reaction. It independently isolates, purifies, synthesizes and characterizes organic compounds. | |||

Contents of lectures | Structure of organic molecules, synthesis and chemical properties of alkanes, halogenoalkanes, unsaturated hydrocarbons, alcohols and phenols, aldehydes and ketones, carboxylic acids, carbohydrates, amines, amino acids and proteins, heterocyclic compounds and nucleic acids. | |||
Contents of exercises | Exercises, Other forms of teaching, Study research work. Methods for isolating and purifying organic substances. Getting to know the basic mechanisms reaction by the synthesis of appropriate compounds. Synthesis of one compound from the main organic groups. Methods for qualitative and quantitative determination of organic substances in natural products. | |||
