The goal Knowledge of the influence of soil properties (reaction, redox potential, organic matter, clay minerals, Fe/Mn oxides, sulfides) on chemical processes in soil (sorption/desorption, ion exchange, precipitation, dissolution, complexation) and determination of availability of essential and toxic elements depending on soil properties, chemical processes in soil and applied testing methods.
The outcome After completing the course, student should know the direction of chemical processes in soil depending on its chemical properties, the influence of these processes on solubility, mobility and availability of essential and potentially toxic elements, as well as to take appropriate measures to increase or decrease the solubility of these elements.
    Contents
Contents of lectures Basic soil properties - reaction, redox potential, organic matter, clay minerals, Fe/Mn oxides, sulfides; Chemical processes in soil - sorption/desorption, ion exchange, precipitation, dissolution, oxidation-reduction, formation of complexes; availability of necessary and toxic elements from various chemical forms in soil depending on soil properties and chemical processes in soil.
Contents of exercises Application of different extraction procedures and methods for determining the soluble content of elements in soils with different chemical characteristics.
