Establishment of the Faculty of Agriculture
The great Serbian botanist, Josif Pančić (1814-1888), was the first professor of the Science of Agriculture at the Great School in Belgrade and can be considered the founder of agricultural science. However, Sima Lozanić (1847-1935), the first professor of Agricultural Chemistry and then rector of the University of Belgrade, had the greatest credit for the establishment of the Faculty of Agriculture. Sima Lozanić had great help and understanding regarding the establishment of the Faculty from Jovan Žujović (1856-1939), geologist and petrographer, then Minister of Education.

The Faculty was founded by the Law on Amendments to the Law on the University of February 27, 1905 ("Official Gazette of the Kingdom of SHS" No. 85, Year I, dated August 23, 1919)
Immediately after the end of the First World War, at the first session of the University Council, held on March 28, 1919, the rector announced an act of the Ministry of Education, in which the wish was expressed to open and start work at the Faculty of Agriculture, with two departments: agricultural and forestry. In commemoration of this day, the Faculty celebrates March 28 - Faculty Day.
The preparation for the opening and start of work of the Faculty of Agriculture lasted until the fall of 1920, and classes began on December 5, with the opening speech of the first dean, Dr. Petar Đorđević, full professor of Special Botany and head of the Ministry of Forests and Mines. Over time, the faculty was formed into a significant educational and scientific institution.
In 1930, the Faculty received a new name, the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry, and in 1949 they were separated as independent faculties: the Faculty of Forestry and the Faculty of Agriculture.

College today
From humble beginnings with a few teachers, three full-time, one part-time and three part-time, the Faculty of Agriculture is today one of the leading higher education institutions in this part of Europe, with over 500 employees and a permanent number of around 4,500 students.
The Faculty building is an exceptional combination of the classic, Viennese style of the thirties of the last century, to which a new, modern part of the building was added (1980). The front facade is ornate, with figures and ornaments. The interior of the old part of the building is dominated by Renaissance stairs and marble columns. The large amphitheater with a balcony, with a capacity of 800 seats, is particularly impressive.
Scientific research work is carried out through 8 institutes, 31 departments, a large number of specialized and accredited laboratories, the "Radmilovac" sample property, a large number of scientific societies operating within the Faculty, with intensive cooperation with related organizations in the country and abroad.
In accordance with the European system of education, major changes were introduced at the Faculty by adopting a new, three-level way of studying (basic academic studies, graduate academic studies-master, specialist academic studies and doctoral academic studies). The reform process aligned with the Bologna Declaration and new study programs began to be implemented in 2007.
